Ingredients:
- 1 small pumpkin (or butternut squash)
- Water (for steaming)
Instructions:
- Prepare the pumpkin: Wash the pumpkin, peel it, take out the seeds, and chop it into small pieces.
- Steam the pumpkin: Put the small pieces in a steamer basket above hot, steaming water. Lid and steam for about 10-15 min, until the pumpkin is soft and tender.
- Blend the puree: Pour out the cooked pumpkin into a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. In case the puree is very thick you should thin it down a little with water or breast milk/formula.
- Serve: Let it cool before serving. Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container placed in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or in the freezer portion-controlled for later use.
This is a very basic recipe that is healthy and can be used to get your baby started with the solids.
